We sat down with another beautiful Wonderland bride to get her love story. Meet Jennifer Jeremy, who were married March 10th, 2018.

When and how did you meet?

Jeremy and I both attended FAU and had mutual friends, but we met and became friends while working at Olive Garden in 2008.

How long did you date before he popped the question?

7 years!

How did he propose?

We were on a hiking trip for our 7 year anniversary. When we reached the summit of Cowrock Mountain, in the Blue Ridge Mountains, I sat on a rock to meditate and soak in the beauty. I turned to Jeremy and said, “When we decide to get married, I’d love for you to propose somewhere like this!” I swear…and was so embarrassed when he turned around, slightly pale faced, and got down on one knee! I was looking around in disbelief and kept asking if he’s serious. He was of course, very serious, and it was a magical moment that we shared alone. We had no cell phone service and a he had hidden a bottle of champagne is his backpack. We hiked into the forest, hung our hammocks up, and celebrated!

Where were you married and how did you pick the place?

We were married in Live Oak, Florida, at Heritage Park & Gardens. We, along with our family and friends, camped at nearby Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. Jeremy’s family lives in Live Oak and the Suwannee River holds a special place in our hearts. One afternoon a few years ago, we came upon HPG while driving around town and decided to hike the pines behind it. We snacked on wild blackberries and found a field to practice some yoga. After the engagement, we knew we wanted to get married in nature. We remembered the Live Oak park and set an appointment to visit. We toured the historical house and gardens once and knew it’d be the perfect venue space! We had a house to get ready in, but the wedding events could be outside, in nature.

What theme and/or colors have you chosen for your wedding and why?

We wanted our wedding to exemplify our bohemian style. It was a floral, nature inspired theme with many colors! I could not decide on set colors… I love them all!

Where did you go for your honeymoon?

Nicaragua for 2 weeks and it was beautiful!!

Share your experience about your time with Wonderland Bridal.

The staff was friendly and worked with my budget. They helped me envision our day and pick a dress that was perfect for me.

What was the best part of your wedding day?

Listening to the speeches from my Dad, MOH and Best Man. Sitting there, listening, allowed me to be present and grateful for my friends and family. 

Any advice to future couples currently planning a wedding?

You have the choice to allow stress into your planning experience and on your wedding day. Choose to be present and grateful. Your union is what matters, not the centerpieces. HAVE FUN!

Love Story: Lillian & Jonathan

When and how did you meet?

We met by chance as we were both celebrating friends’ birthdays in Fort Lauderdale. Our interaction was a short 5 minutes where we exchanged some preliminary information about each other and telephone numbers as my friends hurried me to leave. 

How long did you date before he popped the question?

We dated for a little over 2 years and a half.

How did he propose?

He suggested we plan a last minute spontaneous get away for a long weekend where we originally had no plans. I thought it was odd but was not going to question the opportunity for a much needed vacation! We booked a short cruise to the Bahamas and Great Stirrup Cay. He had been acting so weird the entire cruise, said he wasn’t able to sleep, wasn’t feeling good, etc to which I kept thinking either he was sick or just wasn’t having a good time (little did I know his nerves were getting the best of him!). On the last day, we departed the cruise ship on to Norwegian’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay. I wanted to set our bags and stuff on the tanning chairs close to where everyone else was, with the DJ playing and the bar next to us. He kept insisting that a co -worker told him about a great quiet spot with hammocks underneath the palm trees where we could relax. Again I kept thinking it was weird as my fiancé is full of life and always up for having a good time. Honestly, a proposal never crossed my mind as again this was a last minute, short weekend cruise. We continued to walk in the heat with all of our stuff along with my complaining that this hammock section better be worth the walk. We settled on some tanning chairs in the shade underneath some nice tall palm trees overlooking the water. We went into the water for a little while and somehow or another began talking about life, engagement, marriage and kids. When we exited the water and came back to our chairs he turned to me and asked “So when do you want to get engaged?” Of course my response was “I don’t know, anytime, now” to which I meant now meaning anytime in the near future, not that very moment! Lol He pulled out a ring and said “Ok, let’s do it”.  =)

Where were you married and how did you pick the place?

We were married at the Fort Lauderdale Historical Society’s New River Inn. It is Broward County’s oldest standing hotel, preserved as a history museum. We picked this location as we had seen a wedding taking place there as we drove past by chance a year or two before and thought it was beautiful. My dream was always to have an outdoor wedding that was atypical of the normal South Florida weddings. I wanted a Plantation style home to be the backdrop of our big day. However we mainly picked this place because it was about a minute down the street from the place we met which happens to be the same place we ended our wedding night. After the wedding, our closest friends (who happened to be with us the night of our meeting) and other friends and family walked down the street with us to Public House, the lounge we met at.  We ended the night dancing away there in our wedding attire!

What theme and/or colors have you chosen for your wedding and why?

I wanted all neutrals and natural wood items for our wedding. We wanted it to be outdoors, and have a laid back and breezy vibe to it. Our goal was for everyone to have fun and feel at home.

Where did you go for your honeymoon?

We went to a beach town in Costa Rica and also spent a few days in the volcano region there as well. It was absolutely amazing!

Why did you chose Wonderland Bridal for your dream dress?

I had been in search of a particular Stella York dress I had seen online and Wonderland Bridal had it in stock. It is not however the dress I settled on.

Share your experience about your time with Wonderland Bridal.

From beginning to end the ladies of Wonderland Bridal were so sweet and welcoming. They really made me feel comfortable with my experience and as if I had known them for years. Everything about the inside of wonderland bridal is magical. It is decorated so beautifully and the attention to detail of everything from the personalized sign for your fitting room to your gift bag once your purchase is made really makes the whole experience come to life. It really is a wonderland for brides that makes you never want to leave!

What was the best part of your wedding day?

I’d have to say the best part was taking a moment to watch everyone during the dinner hour conversing, eating and enjoying. I was able to take in the moment of the lights twinkling around the trees and the museum, the candles flickering on the tables and the classic jazz music I had requested to be played during this time. The venue turned out better than I could have ever imagined and moved me to a different place/era in time.

Any advice to future couples currently planning a wedding?

We did not technically have a wedding planner except for the day of. Our caterer happened to be pretty amazing and helped a lot along the way and was able to contract a ton of stuff for us however if I could do it again I would hire a wedding planner throughout the entire process. I am a pretty resourceful and organized gal however there are so many options and vendors and things to consider during the planning process having someone as a foreperson for you to direct you through out who has expertise in the business seems pretty invaluable in hindsight.

Love Story: Allison & Sam

When and how did you meet?

We went to middle school together and started dating in high school.

How long did you date before he popped the question?

13 years!

How did he propose? Rang the doorbell, once I opened the door Sam was down on one knee.

Where were you married and how did you pick the place? Mansion at Tuckahoe in Jensen Beach, FL. We picked this place because it was and amazing building with a blank space.

What theme and/or colors have you chosen for your wedding and why?

We chose Navy, Silver with a splash of coral.

 

Why did you chose Wonderland Bridal for your dream dress?

Honestly, the environment was so welcoming. The staff felt like family. Plus the welcome sign with my name on it sealed the deal!

Share your experience about your time with Wonderland Bridal.

I honestly had no idea what I was looking for and the staff gave me different options they felt would look best for my body. I never felt rushed or pressured. They made the experience so amazing for myself, my mom and my bridesmaids

What was the best part of your wedding day?

Saying “I DO’ to my best friend and finally having the same last name has my son!!

3 Ways to Afford the Wedding Dress of your Dreams

This is the part of wedding planning that no one gives you advice on. Choosing a wedding gown, venue, flowers, etc is all fun until you have to open your wallet. How can you afford your wedding gown without sacrificing what you want? Wonderland Bridal has a few insightful tips that may be able to help you!

Plan your wedding well in advance

One great way to make sure that you can afford the wedding gown of your dreams and not go into debt in the process is to plan your wedding far in advance. Brides who start the planning process early can set money aside little by little so they can pay as much of their weddings as they can in cash and rely less on credit cards. This way when a hefty deposit is required, you can pay it all at once. Open a savings account for wedding expenses so you can keep track of how you are spending money for your big day. You can have your bank set up withdrawals so it comes out of your checking account automatically.

Using Credit Cards aren’t always bad

Many credit cards offer zero interest for a term of 6 months or more. This is extremely helpful in paying for your wedding gown. You can make smaller interest free monthly payments instead of having to come up with a large amount all at once.  Just make sure that you pay off the amount you owe before the interest kicks in.

Do you have a credit card that has reward points or cash back? Use this! By paying for your wedding with this card you can save enough points to help pay for your honeymoon.

Ask the bridal store for a payment plan

For some brides coming up with a deposit can be difficult. Depending on the bridal shop some may require the purchase to be paid in full or others can offer a bit of help in the way of a smaller deposit and several payments until the wedding gown order can be placed. If you know that you cannot come up with a large deposit up front, ask the bridal shops where you book your appointments what their payment policy is. This way if you fall in love with a wedding dress you know if you will be able to afford it or not.

Reasons not to Rent your Wedding Dress

We get a few calls here and there from brides inquiring on wedding gown rentals. A very limited amount of places in South Florida rent wedding dresses. Why so few? There are more Cons than Pros. While Renting your wedding gown seems like a good idea on the surface, there are many more reasons not to!

Cost

A budget conscious bride might look into rentals thinking it could save her some money. In reality, renting a wedding gown can actually end up costing as much as the purchase of a regularly priced gown. Rental pricing depends on the designer. If you are looking at a high-end designer you could end up spending about $1,000 or more. While a lot of rental places are insured for damaged wedding dresses, they will often ask for a deposit. Many places that rent wedding gowns will charge a fee in case something happens to the dress. If someone spills red wine all over your gown, there goes your deposit. If someone steps on your train and puts a big hole in your gown, there goes your deposit. If someone burns a hole in it with a cigarette, which we have seen happen more than once, there goes your deposit. You can see where we are going with this. If you are wearing a wedding gown you purchased, you won’t have to tip-toe around your ceremony and your reception trying to protect your gown from being damaged out of fear of losing your deposit. Who wants to spend their entire wedding doing that? There are other ways to save money.

Alterations

Simple alterations may be done depending on your agreement with the store you rent your gown from. Online sites we visited did not allow alterations to be done at all. Not all brides are the same height or will wear the same shoe height. The standard length of wedding gowns are meant to fit brides who are between 5’7″ and 5’9″. If you are petite, this would not work for you. On a bride who is 5 feet tall, wearing a 3″ to 5″ heeled shoe could still render her gown too long. Also, depending on the style of dress, it may not even be proportionate to the bride’s size. The beauty of having a gown that is all your own is having it tailored to your body. Your curves should fill it in just right.

Availability

With renting a wedding gown, you have a limited amount of time with it. You can borrow it anywhere from 4 days to 2 weeks. That sounds like just enough time, but what if the gown doesn’t work at the last minute. Maybe it is not quite what you imagined or the wrong size. The turn-around time in getting another gown to you by your wedding day is not something you want to play with. You will also need to plan to have someone take care of returning your gown while you are on your honeymoon, if needed.

Experience/Sentimental Value

Wedding gown shopping is a rite of passage. A bride goes with her entourage to look at wedding dresses and try them on and share an intimate moment. There is nothing intimate about ordering a wedding dress online. Wearing a rented wedding gown could possibly mean that several brides have worn it before you. Beading can be pesky and fall off. If they have fallen off a gown at another bride’s wedding, they may be missing from yours. There is no guarantee of every single bead being sewn back on by the time you wear it.

A bride’s wedding is one of the best days of her life. Deciding to purchase the rented wedding gown she wore is usually not an option. This means she will not have the wedding dress as a keepsake and will not be able to save it for her daughter to wear.

How do I prepare for a trunk show?

First, schedule your appointment as soon as possible! Wonderland Bridal runs by appointment only and we are booking up quickly. This is an event you definitely do not want to miss!

Make sure that the person whose opinion matters most to you, will be available or at least accessible via facetime  in case you fall in love with a wedding dress that is exclusive to the trunk show. We may be able to borrow it from the designer for a fee after the trunk show, but this is only after it has finished traveling to other shows across the country. That could take a couple of months. You will also want to make sure that the person who is paying for the dress will be with you in case you find the one. You don’t want to miss out on the trunk discounts which will only be available through Sunday, 5/6/18.

With Bridal season in full swing we are noticing a lot more pregnant bridesmaids than in recent years. Both being pregnant and a bridesmaid can complicate the bridesmaid dress buying process but Wonderland Bridal is here to help! There are plenty of ways to accommodate the mama-to-be. First thing’s first, celebrate the bundle of joy you are expecting or be excited about planning your growing family. Next, read below to see how you can be happy and still be there for your bride.

Shhh! Don’t Tell the Bride I’m Pregnant

We don’t like hearing this, ever, yet we hear it so often. Give the bride the chance to be happy for you. This is your life and it doesn’t stop because someone else is getting married. At the same time, you need to understand that this may be the most important day of the bride’s life and not sharing this information can really hurt your relationship with her. She is paying for things like flowers and gifts for the bridal party and if you don’t think you will be able to participate in the wedding, this should be communicated to the bride right away.

How do I choose a style?

Once you have shared your blessing with the bride, ask her about the aesthetic she is going for. Does she want everyone in the same bridesmaid dress or is everyone allowed to choose their own style. Your bride will want you to look just as beautiful as all of her other bridesmaids so no doubt she will choose something that will accommodate your growing belly.

When shopping for bridesmaid dresses ask your stylist for recommendations. Let them know how far along you will be or hope to be when the wedding arrives. If this something you want to keep private maybe ask the bride to go shopping with you separately so that you can ask your stylist all of the questions you have before returning with the rest of the bridesmaids.

How will I know what size to order?

There will be a lot of guessing between you and your stylist about which size you will need and how extensive alterations could be. If you are wearing a more fitted bridesmaid dress you will need to order a few sizes larger. Our Sorella Vita bridesmaid dresses take approximately 3-4 months to arrive. There is a rush option but  be aware there are usually costs associated with this. The best option is to order your bridesmaid dress with a rush since you will have a better idea of what your size will be closer to the wedding date. Also, there is no science to knowing what size you will be when the bridesmaid dress arrives so this is a decision you will need to make carefully.

1-5 Months Pregnant at the wedding

We recommend ordering 2-3 sizes up from your current measurements. Avoid a style with a thick waist band or fitted skirt. Sorella Vita has plenty of styles to choose from that are fitted on the top with a natural waistline and flowing skirt to flatter your silhouette.

6-8 Months Pregnant at the wedding

For a later term pregnancy we recommend that you consider a bridesmaid dress with a higher waistline and order 2-4 sizes up from your measurement the date the order is placed.

Post Pregnancy

If the wedding plans are starting way ahead of time but you will be late term by the time all of the bridesmaids are placing their order, we recommend having your measurements taken as soon as possible. Is this your first pregnancy? You know how quickly/slowly you will return to your regular size. If you are unsure we recommend going one size up just in case. You don’t need the added stress of not fitting into your bridesmaid dress because it is too small or trying to lose weight to fit into it.

Wedding Dress Shopping Etiquette

By now you have no doubt read plenty of blogs and received tons of advice on what to expect during your wedding gown shopping experience. There are a few details that get missed but can sometimes be equally as important. Our experts have a few pieces of wedding gown shopping etiquette that every bride should be sure to remember.

Who should I invite to the appointment?

Deciding who to invite to your appointment is probably the hardest part about wedding dress shopping. How do you know who to invite and who should stay at home? Well the first person you called after you got engaged should get an automatic invite. This will probably be the person or people who are closest to you. You will want to keep your entourage small. We recommend having no more than 5 people come to your appointments. Everyone wants to be able to boast that they were the one who picked out your wedding gown. Some opinions will be louder than others which may try to sway your decision or talk you out of a wedding dress you really love.

Do you have to bring your Mother-in-Law? If you have a good relationship and you want to bring her, you should. It could be a wonderful bonding experience. Bring positive people who just want you to be happy. Also, invite the person who is paying for your wedding dress. Nothing is worse than having your own, “Say Yes to the Dress” moment and the person paying for it is not there to seal the deal.

Who pays for my dress?

Traditionally the family of the bride is responsible for the cost of the wedding dress. Today, most brides are paying for it themselves. If someone else has offered to pay for it, make sure you know up front how much they are prepared to spend and what they are paying for so that if you do go over budget you have a plan to cover the balance.

Why do I have to schedule an appointment? Can’t I just go into a store and look around?

Searching for a wedding gown requires some planning. You should be doing as much research as you can about the bridal shops you are making appointments with. The best place to purchase your wedding gown is a shop that has excellent customer service. You want to make sure that the bridal shop is prepared and excited to see you. If you come in without an appointment, it is not guaranteed that you will be able to try on wedding dresses or that there will even be a fitting area available for you.

If you just want to browse for now, keep in mind that the bridal stylists may be busy with customers and not available to answer all of your questions. Besides, you can’t really judge a wedding dress on a hanger. You have to see how it will look on your body and this is something your bridal stylist can recommend during your scheduled appointment.

Why do most bridal stores not allow young children?

Bridal shops can be a dangerous place for unsupervised children; there are pins that can poke, small beads than can pose as a choking hazard, and glass or heavy furniture that can fall on children and injure them. You may bring someone to help you watch them but this appointment time should be all about you and everyone should be giving you their undivided attention.

What kind of undergarments should I wear to my appointment?

This is probably the question most asked by brides scheduling a wedding gown appointment for the first time. First and foremost, understand that there will be someone helping you change into wedding dresses. Your Bridal Stylist wants you to feel comfortable but here are some tips on what undergarments to wear.

A bra is not usually necessary since most wedding dresses are fully structured or have an illusion (see through) back. If you would feel more comfortable with a bra we recommend a strapless one.

Make sure that any panties you wear are a light color and simple pattern so you don’t see them through the wedding dress or have distracting panty lines.

If you want to try on wedding gowns with shape wear like Spanx be sure that you understand that this could fight the natural structure of the wedding dress you love and could make the interior of it feel very warm. Our advice is to try wedding gowns with and with out the extra help.  You may decide that you don’t need it at all.

When and how did you meet?

We didn’t even realize it but we went to the same church and never met each other until his cousin got me a job at a lab where he was working. That was back in 2009. I was waiting for an interview when I first saw him and I gave him a dirty look like why are you looking at me??

How long did you date before he popped the question?

We dated for about 7 years.

How did he propose?

It was July 16, 2016 and I was mad at him because he didn’t propose to me yet. But what I didn’t know that he has a ring with him for a while waiting to find the right time. We had an argument about it so he decided to just do it. He took me down memory lane. We finished a movie and after he drove me the spot where he realized he first liked me. And then to where we had our first date, to all our make out spots and places where we had our best memories. Then we ended up at the lab where we met. And alone in the parking lot he got down on one knew and told me that he knew I was special from the moment he met me and he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. And if I would marry him. And of course I said yes.

Where were you married and how did you pick the place?

We actually got married a few months after in December 2016. My grandpa was put into hospice with only a few weeks to live and I was heartbroken that he wouldn’t be able to be at our wedding so Kyle thought it would be a good idea to get married with him. We had a little ceremony in his room with our grandmas as bridesmaids, and a few days later he passed. Our wedding took place a year later at the Living Sculpture Sanctuary. I just randomly and luckily came across this gem. I was searching online for a unique outdoor space to have a rustic wedding and it was the first place I visited. It was perfect.

What theme and/or colors have you chosen for your wedding and why?

I wanted a romantic and rustic feel for our wedding. The colors were light pink/blush, navy blue and gold.

Where did you go for your honeymoon?

We went to the Excellence Resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Why did you chose Wonderland Bridal for your dream dress?

I looked online for places that had styles that I liked and again it was my first stop. I had other appointments, but I didn’t have to go anywhere else, they had exactly what I was looking for.

Share your experience about your time with Wonderland Bridal.

They were so helpful and nice from the moment I walked in. And they, in a nice way, put up with my BS. I told them what I wanted and against my will they made me try on the opposite. But that technique made the experience even better. I did not want a strapless sweetheart dress, I wanted something different –and they made me try on a few strapless sweetheart dresses. (One was actually a runner up to my final choice). I tried on all the ones I didn’t want to and then once I put on the last dress I wanted everyone knew it was the one. I know they made me try on those dresses strategically so that I knew for sure what I wanted and that made finding my dress all the more special. You need to see yourself in other dresses because you just never know how a dress in a magazine or online will look on our body type. Brides are usually stubborn about that but the ladies at wonderland know how to get you in the right dress.

What was the best part of your wedding day?

It was all so perfect, but I think our first dance was the best part. Your wedding day is such a whirlwind and just those few minutes of swaying in his arms makes everything slow down and the beauty of it all just hits you and wow the ceremony is over already.

Any advice to future couples currently planning a wedding?

Don’t stress!!! No one knows what your vision is except you. So if it isn’t exactly what you wanted who cares! Also at least a day of wedding planner is a must! Mine was just amazing she was able to put together everything even better than what I imagined.

When and how did you meet?

We met in pharmacy school during our orientation week at Nova Southeastern University. We were standing next to each other in line for food and he made a joke that caused me to laugh hysterically. When I got home, I had a friend request from him 🙂

How long did you date before he popped the question?

We officially started dating on 11/11/11. So the number 11 definitely has a significant place in our hearts. He proposed about 4 1/2 years later on my birthday 6/18/16.

How did he propose?

I really love to eat (it’s literally my favorite thing to do) and Sebastien took me to a very nice restaurant near the beach for my birthday dinner. The atmosphere was perfect and it was probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Sebastien suggested that we go for a walk on the beach after dinner. After searching unsuccessfully for parking I convinced him to go home. I had an intimate, at-home proposal that was 100% perfect and absolutely what I wanted.

Where were you married and how did you pick the place?

We were both raised Catholic and it was important for us to get married in church. We got married at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in Coral Springs. Our reception was about 10 minutes away at the Coral Springs Marriott.

What theme and/or colors have you chosen for your wedding and why?

Our theme was royal and elegant. We chose Gold, Purple, and Ivory which gave us the majestic feel we were going for.

Where did you go for your honeymoon?

My husband loves to travel. Our deal was that I would plan the wedding and he would plan the honeymoon. We went to Hawaii, Australia, Thailand, the Maldives, Venice and Portugal. It was the trip of a lifetime with the love of my life. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect honeymoon 🙂

Why did you chose Wonderland Bridal for your dream dress?

Wonderland Bridal was my first stop for wedding dress shopping because of the wonderful reviews I saw online. I called to make an appointment and Alicyn suggested that I come in for the Stella York Trunk show. She said that it would be an ideal time to come since it was my first time shopping and there would be a variety of styles to try on. She was super pleasant on the phone and it made me really look forward to visiting the store.

Share your experience about your time with Wonderland Bridal.

I felt so welcomed by Patti and Alicyn. The store was nicely designed, very clean and there were so many dresses on display. Patti helped me during my appointment. She helped me get an idea of exactly the style of dress I was looking for. She is very attentive in listening to what the bride wants and how they feel in the dress. We got down to one dress that I loved, but I just couldn’t make a commitment my first time dress shopping. Seven stores later I was back to try on more dresses. I retried the Stella York dress and finally had my waterworks and say yes to the dress moment. There’s a quote by Maya Angelou that says “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”. My experience with wonderland bridal exceeded expectations and it is such a memorable part of my journey to the big day.

What was the best part of your wedding day?

It was honestly the best day of my life from start to finish and I loved every minute. But walking down the aisle was so special. We didn’t do a first look prior to the ceremony because we wanted to keep with tradition. When the bridal chorus started playing in church it finally hit me that this is it, it’s finally happening! My mom and uncle walked me down the aisle. It was so exciting and emotional walking towards my future husband surrounded by all of our closest friends and family. And then finally locking eyes with Sebastien and seeing the look of awe on his face. I will treasure that moment forever.Any advice to future couples currently planning a wedding?

Give yourself time to enjoy being engaged, but start planning as early as you can. I started about a year before our wedding date because we were paying for the wedding ourselves and wanted to stay within budget. This will give you time to research and find the best vendors and packages without feeling any pressure. Reliable and supportive vendors are key! If at any time you don’t feel comfortable with something go with your gut. I ended up canceling a DJ I hired 2 months prior to my wedding because the communication was not where it needed to be. The DJ I ended up going with was amazing and I have no regrets. This is one day and it goes by so fast. Think about what’s most important for you and work to make it happen. Everything else will fall into place.
