Summer Wedding Trends & Tips from a Former Summer Bride
Summertime and the living is easy. Just kidding, thats not always the case especially when planning a wedding, but were here to ensure you all remain up-to-date with the latest and greatest wedding trends each season.
This seasonal wedding trend post will be a little different than our others because we have somewhat of a summer wedding expert in the house. Lindsey Swing of LLScene (www.ll-scene.com) got married in the Summer of 2014 at The Breakers in Palm Beach, with no shortage of humidity and blazing hot temperatures. Shes here to give her insight on summer wedding trends and personal advice on how to tackle those sweaty temperatures, while looking like the bride you have always envisioned yourself to be.
Your Summer Wedding Dress
It goes without saying that you will want a comfortably airy dress that is lightweight and flattering under heated conditions. Some wedding dresses tend to be heavy and embellished, so I would avoid those types of dresses all together. Im lucky enough to visit Wonderland Bridal regularly, so Im fully confident you will find just what youre looking for at their bridal boutique. You will see some of my favorite recommendations below.
Open Back Dress
A trend that will never go out of style, and even more perfect for to let some air into your dress during your summer wedding.

Plunging Necklines
This Sincerity Bridal dress has lace Illusion straps and plunging neckline in a lightweight delicate fabric for a hot summer day. It may look like a heavy dress, but it's not! Achieve that ball gown look you have always dreamed of.
Crepe, Crepe and more Crepe!
This fabric is the end all be all to wedding gown elegance and comfort. But, what exactly is it?! Crepe is a light, soft, and thin fabric with a crinkled surface. Not only is this an up and coming wedding trend for all seasons, it's the perfect material to capture unwanted sweat and moisture.

Jewelry Embellished Dresses
Two birds, one stone?! If you can look good doing it, then why not?! Implementing statement jewelry like diamonds and pearls as an attachment to your wedding dress is HUGE this year. Our Ashley & Justin dress does the work for you with this elegant open back embellished with pearls.
Light Weight Elegance
There's nothing worse than having a heavy wedding dress, unless you have a heavy wedding dress in the summer heat. This is one of our favorite dresses to recommend to South Florida brides tying the knot in the summer.
Bridesmaid Dresses
The same applies for your bridesmaids. You all have a long day ahead of you, which is very important to remember when picking your bridesmaid dresses. Wonderland Bridals Sorella Vita collection is PERFECT for your summer bridal party. Not only are the dresses beautiful, but theyre lightweight and flattering under any weather condition you may come upon. Bright hues are very popular for Summer 2017 bridesmaids.
Themes
Rather than going the beach theme route, embrace the garden/boho theme instead. This trend can be easily transitioned from spring to summer. Everyone remembers their summers as a kid, so get with your groom and implement some of your favorite summer memories into your summer wedding.
Primer
Chances are you will have a fabulous makeup artist that knows just what to use on your face to combat that summer shine. You want to glisten on your wedding day, not come off looking like a wet dog. Primer will be your best friend. Makeup primer is a base for foundation or face makeup that allows it to go on smoother and last longer. Formulas are available in cream, gel and powder. Before she does anything, your makeup artist will apply primer, so your makeup goes on smooth and remains consistent throughout the day.
Embrace the Backup Plan
I know this is tough to hear, but embrace it and make sure you love it. Most summer brides (including myself) decide to forgo an outside ceremony all together, but if youre willing to take the chance you must be prepared to use your backup option. Not only is the rain unpredictable in the summer, the heat is just as bad. On my wedding day, we had planned for the cocktail hour to be outside until the temperatures reached to nearly 100 degrees that day. I was more than happy to move it inside.
Keep it Cool
Create a signature cocktail that will keep your guests hydrated and cool during cocktail hour. One of the latest and greatest wedding drink trends to look out for this summer has to be the Wine Smoothie! This frosted drink will be the talk of the town and show how much time and effort you put into the comfort of your guests. A wine smoothie consists of a fruity wine, like rose, blended with ice and fruits of your choice.
